All software that purports to "restore" XP is snake oil. Of course the makers claim
otherwise, even stoking up demand by "diagnosing" that your PC needs treatment when
it doesn't - but its still snake oil.
I know that "all" is a big word, but I meant it :-)
Far better to keep the rubbish out with decent security tools (all free) and by not
using Internet Explorer - but once its there you can either:
1. Re-install - the only real solution to a heavily infected PC
2. Repair/install - which does a pretty good job most of the time, but don't rely
on your files being saved . . . usually does but not always
3. Post to one of the specialist malware forums - my favourite is SpywareBeware but
there are others . . . you have to register (but they're free) and follow the posting
instructions carefully.
Additionally, take a full image backup of the PC (Acronis is best IMHO) when its
re-built and then you can fully restore to a known state in 5 - 10 minutes.
