XP SP3 won't download? Worth it?

Hey everyone. I went to the Microsoft update sight and tried to download XP SP3 but it wouldn't? The dialog box appeared saying download in progress but 3 hours later...nothing? Is it recommended or not necessary? Thanks, Mike
