Desktop shortcuts won't 'arrange by type'

I've had this problem for ages, and I'm finally sick of it.. Whenever I select 'Arrange icons by type' on my desktop, all shortcuts end up in two seperate groups. 'My Computer', 'Network Places', 'Recycle Bin', etc., are in the top left corner, then starts a series of shortcuts. Halfway through the shortcut list, I get icons for folders, jpegs, mp3's, etc.. THEN, I have the rest of my shortcut icons. Any help appreciated. mark
