two boot options

I'm trying to remove one of the boot process steps, but get lost in trying to understand
what I need to do. The following is what I have, and what I'd like to accomplish.
This custom built computer had a dual boot configuration with XP and Vista; XP Home
SP2 on one HDD (partition C) and Vista Home Prem. on the second HDD (partition F).
When booting up, an option screen appeared for booting into either XP, Vista, or
the Recovery Console. When Vista was selected it went right to Vista, but when XP
was selected a second screen came up with options for booting into either XP or the
Recovery Console.
Because I was tired of the problems with Vista, especially after the auto update
installation of SP3 prevented me from booting into Vista, I removed Vista from the
boot process using EasyBCD 1.7.2, and then completely removed Vista from the HDD.
What is left is XP on the first drive (partition C), a second partition on the same
drive (partition E) containing data, and a third partition (D) on the second drive.
When booting up, I still get the two screens from which to make selections between
XP and the Recovery Console. What I'd like to do is eliminate one of those option
screens, but I don't know how to do that. And by the way, the second option screen
seems to come from the C:\boot.ini file since it has the same timeout seconds, whereas
the first screen has a longer timeout.
Any ideas?
