I'm stumped. I happen to be fixing a Computer for a friend, and it has a fresh install of Windows, so it gave Me a opportunity to try a same download of DirectX, and it installed fine.

dxdiag in the Run box, see if that tells you anything, it should tell you what version you have on the Computer know.
