She had her NIC configured for the network she was connected to I would assume. Recommend uninstalling then reinstalling you network card should clear up issue (no messing around) I believe. Even if doing so solves issue I would recommend a total format since you will inherit all the issues she had (Fresh start) Assuming she gave you the XP disk.
