The little "safely remove hardware" sign indicates that USB drivers have loaded. 
If this normally comes up and za immediately after it, then za files might be on 
a failing cluster on your disk.
Overnight, run "chkdsk c: /r" = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265/en-us

If that doesn't work, try using msconfig to create a bootlog (boot.ini tab). When 
it stalls, wait about 5 minutes before restarting the boot so that the time lag is 
all you have to look for in that lenghthy log file. The file AFTER the lag is the 
one that needs to be traced back to an application and/or device.
