You have had that problem for four years? That would have driven me insane by now!
It is not a software problem as such - you have proved that with fresh OS installs,
even a different hard drive - so start looking for a hardware problem. Is the CPU
overclocked and are you sure the memory timing is correctly set up in the BIOS? I
know on my own machine that I can only overclock it by an absolute maximum of 12%
and if I take it further than that, it screws up intermittently. Overclocking the
CPU usually overclocks the memory as well. As the machine is getting old now, lift
the lid and make sure it isn't all clogged-up with dust, which can/will cause overheating.
