I have never seen a loose IDE Ribbon cable as long as it was properly inserted, but have seen the Power Cables on Hard Drives come loose. On the Computers that I use a PCI SATA Control Card, the IDE, and SATA Drives work fine together, but if I am installing Windows on the SATA Drives, I have to have the all the IDE Drives disconnected to get Windows to boot to the SATA Drive to install Windows. I tend to Disconnect all the Hard Drives but the Boot Drive anyway when installing Windows, so that isn't a big deal to Me.
