Theres no problem with running SATA and IDE together.. However, in my experience, you are completely wrong about it having a "better" connection. The plug has 40-pins, and when plugged in properly they are extremely secure. Sata uses only a few pins, and the plugs usually wobble around and are not very secure. The only issue with IDE drives and loose connections are the power connector some times.
