I would replace the Ribbon Cable with a new one. They are delicate, and can have
intermittent problems.
SATA is going to replace PATA Drives eventually, but
there are so many Computers still using the the PATA Drives that they will be around
for a Long time.
SATA Drives are a bit faster, but if you are only doing Word
Documents , email, and Solitaire, you would never notice it. Only a User, like a
Video gamer, or a Video Editing PC will see a benefit, even then not sure I can really
notice the difference.
The Promise Control Card I linked you to, I have used
on Two Computers for about 2+ Years with no problems, and it will hold (4) SATA Drives,
so if you really want SATA, then give it a try. The SATA Drives are now less expensive
then the old IDE Drives, so the expense it not that big a Deal really.
