Easiest way to fix this is "Dialafix."

Download it here:

http://djlizard.net/software/Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24.zip

Unzip it, then run it. Click to check the boxes next to "Fix Windows Installer"
and "Fix Windows Update", and then press the "Go" button. Will take it about 30
or 40 seconds to run. Then, go back to Windows Update, and your updates should install
just fine.
