Before you made your dual-boot system you wee told to save your documents to a backup device, such as a CD or DVD. An alternative is to always have your documents on a separate hard drive. One of the most annoying thins about Windows is that it requires the user to be deligent and resourceful.
My personal recommendation is to go out and buy another Hard Disk Drive, one large enough to backup everything. Install XP on the new drive. Next, mount the old drive as a secondary or slave in your computer. Or as an external USB. Thus you can read all the data from the old drive, provided that you did not reformat the old drive. Windows XP and Vista work very well with multiple hard drives.
