I talked to one person tonight who works as a Firedog tech for Circuit City, and
told him of this problem. But before I go further let me list my specs once more
as follows:
Motherboard-
Mach Speed (Manufacturer) Features:
775 Sockekt loaded with 3.20 Ghz Celeron CPU
FSB 800 Mhz
Memory 1 Gig DDR PC3200 400 Mhz of RAM (not overclocked)
two (2 as in qty) 200 Gig Maxtor IDE Ultra ATA 133 hard disk drives partitioned to
100 gigs in each partition, both drives feature an 8Mb Buffer at 7200 RPMs
Also installed in this system is an Ultra Firewire board
One DVD+/- RW Lite On Drive and a DVD ROM/ CD +/- RW Lite On Drive (both together
on one IDE Channel)
Then lastly to list I had installed but since removed... A Pinnacle Studio Plus 700-
PCI with Studio version 10 software. I removed the Pinnacle unit completely and now
currently use the Ultra (brand name) Firewire card to edit video.
Conditions when the problem occurs....
1) Recording video in the system using Firewire (current configuration).
2)Burning 2 or more Gigs (but less then 3 Gigs) to a DVD-R Disk, But only during
buffering not while to actual disk is burning. (Current Configuration).
3) Downloading a large group of files (While getting windows updates the first time
as an example) (Prior Configuration).
4) Recording video into system using "Composite Jacks" on Pinnacle Studio Break Out
Box (Prior Configuration).
5) While saving editted video to hard disk drives (Either Configuration).
On a side note I have noticed that the file size is roughly 120 Mb when it locks
up. During loss the cursor freezes in place (movement of mouse does nothing). The
progress bars (if any) stop completely. and the hard disk drive "working" light is
on solid (no flashing what so ever. Lastly Keyboard commands (aka three fingered
saluate) Control/ Alt/ Delete does nothing and the only escape is the trusty reset
button or cutting the power off completely!
Well I hope this helps! Thanks for all you have tried thus far!
The gentleman I spoke with tonight says I am on the right path for my thinking as
follows.... Perhaps this may work but I would like to know before I start wasting
money.
Possible fixes (though I am not sure)
1) Drop 2 Gigs more of RAM into it
2) Swap the Celeron for a Pentuim
3) Add two SATA drives (as my board is compatible for two channels of SATA as well,
besides I have plenty of room though I might have to add more power supply)
Any ideas would be great at this point! Thanks for any help! Thanks again!
