The advice you find about setting pagefile size to be 1.5 times size of physical
memory is somewhat generic and intended to be an "average" starting point, to be
adjusted according to actual usage. If it is known that you will be running memory-intensive
applications, then 3 times is a better starting point. In practice, with large amounts
of physical memory coupled with less-intensive applications, I have known some PC
users to get away with no pagefile! It is an inexact science. Cheers. Spexx.
