I don't know exactly what you didn't like about Avast, but I have had extremely good luck with it. A complete scan takes around 10 minutes. I use 'manual' updates, which are fairly quick, and the program is just what I like, not bloated, not in my face, AV only, small footprint. I did NOT care for the newer version of AVG at all!!! (Win XP SP-2, 1 gig RAM.)
