I run I.E. 7 with add-ons disabled.  I get no popups..

There is a shortcut for IE7 (no addons) in All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. 
 Or you can make your own shortcut.

I don't find many internet sites that require Flash.  Most of those that do I just 
skip.  If there is a site that requires it and I badly want to look at it, I just 
start a normal I.E.

The Windows update site requires the normal I.E. with add-ons.  That's just about 
the only site I visit that does.  But I seldom visit that site because I have automatic 
updates turned on.  I have it set so the updates download but don't install without 
my requesting the installation.  Mainly so I can see what's being updated.
