Uninstalling SATA DVD drive

I recently bought an LG SATA DVD burner. My older Asus SATA mobo (A7N8X-E with 2 SATA inputs) wouldn't run it, so I removed it. However I cannot uninstall/delete the drive and it's associated virtual CD drive no matter what I do. Every time I go through Disk Management uninstall procedures, (including uninstall driver), the computer re-installs the hardware after the re-boot. Anyone got an idea? (I don't consider myself experienced enough to work in Registry - yet)
