The registry doesn't fix itself, unfortunately.

If you can get the machine to boot up, try giving the command

sc config intelppm start= disabled 

from the command line interface.  Note the space after the equals sign, which is 
required.

This will disable the intelppm.sys driver on future reboots, and may solve your problem. 
 On a desktop, you shouldn't need the power management provided by that driver anyway.

If, after doing this, you start getting complaints about processr.sys, you would 
then do the same thing, but this time giving the command as:

sc config processr start= disabled
