Hhhmmm - Well I stopped the tea timer process. It definitely has some bearing because
the System CPU usage reduces significantly and the pattern changes but sadly not
the three 100% blips.
As an aside, why does a normal process (Team Timer) so affect system CPU usage?
If I then uninstall spybot, reboot the machine and . . . . . .
sadly still the 100% system CPU usage.
As to your other thoughts:
I have an internal network card so unplugging it is impractical. Disconnecting the
LAN cable makes not difference - though I confess I didn't bother to reboot.
mchinjdrv.sys: I went looking for this file in system32/drivers but it was not there.
Indeed there is no file mchinjdrv.* on my C: drive?
I read somewhere that is may be to do with a-squared anti-malware (a relatively recent
addition and so a possible candidate) so I uninstalled a-squared as well but no difference.
Two questions as part of tracking this down:
1) Are there any utilities that further break down 'System CPU usage' so I can track
back to the process/thread causing the problem?
2) As a last resort, I (think I) have an old image of the C drive from before the
problem so I may try a restore. What can I sensibly record before and after to see
what the differences and hence maybe the problem was?
