Have I understood you correctly? You are trying to boot the disk from your fried PC in the Dell? That will not work without performing a "repair" installation of XP on it from the XP installation CD. The repair installation will allow XP to re-enumerate the hardware environment, then everything else should work just fine until you try to apply updates to it, when Windows Genuine Advantage will complain bitterly. On the other hand, if you have just attached the disk as a slave device on the Dell, taking ownership of the files will give you full access. Hope this helps. Cheers. Spexx.
