Question about 'Set Defaults in Explorer'

I have two questions about Set
Defaults in Explorer:
1. I tried setting folders to open in explore mode, which they now do, but even though
“Open each folder in the same window is checked,” they now open in new
windows. How do I have both at the same time?
2. How do I set folders so they always open with the above setting, while opening
in details view (they usually do now), with files sorted primarily by file type and
secondarily in alphabetical order, unless there are picture files in the folder,
when it should open in thumbnails view, with files sorted alphabetically?
