I'd do precisely the same as you with two minor differences:
1. I'm not nearly so well organised as to have an answer ready to cut'n'paste although
I've often thought of doing so :-)
2. I'd add SpywareBlaster to your list of useful freebies - blocking the nasties
is always better than cleaning up afterwards IMHO
Carol Eagle used to have similar pre-packaged advice - yours is more up-to-date though.
