"Upgrade" disks for Windows XP will tell you you need an older OS installed. However, this is not actually nessecary. Both upgrade install and clean install instructions are provided with the disk if you were to buy it. Of course you will need a key or a key generator to install new. It is also possible to retrieve this information off of a computer which already has XP installed relatively easily.
