I have a Dell C610 refurb. Have had it 2-3 years. The persistent skitterish pointer
issues destroy the utility of the laptop and affet one's sanity over time! I used
all of the different Dell and Synaptic drivers__always running XP Pro. I found the
'eraser' driver conflict and disabled the 'eraser' in the Dell utility. Nothing good
happens as it reasserts itself sooner or later and the setting is never really stable.
I used several different mice_usb, ps2, etc. Sooner or later the pointer goes astray
again.
Finally I pulled the keyboard and CUT the smaller flat cable attached to the 'eraser'.
Taped it up out of the way. Reinstalled the keyboard. BINGO__no more problems!!!
It is the best and only reliable fix that I have found for this hugely irritating
pointer conflict that destroys the fun and utility of the laptop.
I am sincerely happy now with this little P3 laptop!!
Good luck,
