Folder defaults

What is the trick to getting folders to display as DETAILS????

I go to one of my top nodes, toggle it over to details, and check "apply to subfolders
as well". And yet EVERY LAST FOLDER I go into, I have to do this [again] by hand!

I would like the systemwide DEFAULT to be "details"...with a few JPG or MPG folders
hand-toggled to "thumbnails" afterwards.

Why does XP default to thumbnails in the first place?! This is just plain stupid,
when most of the files are TXT and the like.

In a similar vein, how do I get the explorer headers ("Type", "Size", "Date Modified"...)
to stick?

The default seems to involve screen resolution, etc., and I don't really feel like
resetting this for EVERY folder I go into.
