Usually files in win-created folders, like "my documents", get "locked" during a
repair/re-install. Even files in folders you create in the .\documents and settings\username
sub-directory may be affected.
I like to keep a seperate partition for data; if that is not feasible, at least create
a directory tree elswhere -- e.g. c:\data. If you use "my documents" for drag and
drop on the desktop, create a shortcut to any drive:\folder and place it on the desktop
for that purpose.
Most applications initially set-up folders under .\documents and settings\username.
Change the default folder for them from within the app itself.
