YOU DON'T NEED TO GO THRU ALL THIS REGISTRY BUSINESS, AND IT'S DANGEROUS. JUST DO
THIS:
Windows explorer.exe, the thing that keeps track of open files, gets confused about
which files are still in use. So just kill it and restart it.
- Alt-Ctl-Del
- Task Manager
- Click the Processes tab
- Sort into name order by clicking Image Name heading.
- Find, click explorer.exe
- Click the End Process button.
- File->New Task (Run...)
- Enter "explorer"
- Click Ok
Your desktop icons have disappeared and reappeared. Now you can delete/rename the
file.
