I had a similar problem - my desktop kept crashing every 5-10 seconds each time I
started Windows, even in Safe Mode. The explorer.exe was always crashing and restarting
itself and the only way I could run programs was through pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE.
A full scan with Avira antivirus did not fix the problem but I then used Malwarebyte
Anti-Malware and it found and successfully deleted the Vundo trojan. I had disabled
system restore before doing the cleanup with Anti-Malware because if you dont, I
understand the trojan can re-install itself by hiding in the last good known config
file.
This was a nasty piece of junk that somehow got into my computer but Malwarebyte
Anti-Malware has worked like a dream. I also used VundoFix (can be found on Google)
for a scan afterwards but it did not detect anything further - presumably the issue
has been fully fixed by Anti-Malware.
All the best with your problem. I read a lot about it on different forums and I
think it can be caused by different issues but in an case its certainly a good idea
to run some good anti virus + some good anti malware scans.
