Hi appleoddity,
THANKS it works! I had to do it twice, after the key 'settings' the WMP install created
a subkey 'MP3encoding' that also had no owner or users and caused the installation
to break off.
Same trick on that subkey and WMP 11 is installed now.
Special thanks from my daughter, because it's her laptop and she needed WMP11 badly
to transfer music to her new mp3 player.
