If so, boot it and load the Recovery Console (enter R at first opportunity). Once you get to the Command Prompt, enter chkdsk /r. Let it complete undisturbed. This can take awhile so be patient. Once that finishes, type Exit then remove the Cd and boot normally. Try defragging your drive now, see if it will work. I would recommend downloading and installing a program called DeFraggler. It's a great replacement for the builtin one that comes with XP.
