I had the same exact problem, I spent about 20 minutes looking through forums and
such, until I looked at my display settings. I forgot, when you have two display
adapters(two video cards i.e. on-board and another card) you can choose if your display
goes onto the other card(for another monitor). The way to fix this is; right click
on the desktop, click properties, select advanced tab(after this you should see a
big 1 and 2) click on 2 and uncheck "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor".
This should solve your woes.
