I presume you are trying to connect to the internet through a DSL or Cable modem?
   If that is so you need to ensure the incoming  TCP/IP settings are correct for 
your connection .
 Click on the Icon  for Local Area conncetion in your  system tray or  click on "network 
Settings"  icon in Control Panel.

    Right click on  the icon to display PROPERTIES , .  
 When the  icons display, highlight Internet protocol (TCP/IP),click PROPERTIES  
at middle of page.
 It should display the proper IP addresses & DNS servers your provider has given 
you.
  correct as needed
