You performed a system recovery which, as Ricer has stated, is a function built into the PC by the manufacturer and specific to the brand/model. My only concern is that you took a very drastic approach to solving your issue. If there are other problems present, such as bad sectors on the hard drive, or malware in your data/downloaded files, it is only a matter of time before you experience problems again. Although what you did worked, you never really found the source of your problem which would be preferred over drastic measures such as this.
