I've had this tip forever, and it should work regardless of the OS or OE version.
To make sure OE is the default email client:
Select Start/Run, type the command below (or Copy/Paste), including " marks, in
the 'Open' box and press enter.
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /reg
Next open Internet Explorer and go to Tools Internet Options under Programs and set
OE as the default mail program.
If that doesn't do it, try Start - Run, type: MSIMN /REG in the 'Open' box
and press enter.
