Retrieving 'My Documents' data from a hard drive (Crashed Computer)

Long story short my desktop crashed and is now frozen on the POST screen.. Took it
to a repair shop for a diagnostic test thinking my hard drive crashed but they said
it's my motherboard and the 250GB hard drive SHOULD be okay. Unfortunately I have
some pictures/mp3's/documents I want to retrieve and not lose from my "My Documents"
folder. The computer was running Windows XP and my Windows user name was passworded.
Can sometime tell me what my options are to get this data (probably 15GB worth of
stuff) off of this hard drive and onto my new laptop? Make it a slave drive? Turn
it into an external HDD? Please help, thanks.
