Jmac, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? If it's saving your data before
you use the HP recovery CD then Steve's suggestion is the way to go. See this
post by Happyrck for how to boot Puppy Linux if you need to save your data before

Get the latest version of Puppy available, not the older version Happyrck mentions.
Also, not all HP recovery discs will wipe your drive. Some give you a choice of
doing a Repair Install (install over existing XP) or Clean Install (format and install).
Check your documentation to see what yours will do. If you don't have it you can
go to the HP web site and get it from there. Post your model number if you need help
with this.
