I have the spoolsv.exe issue as well. Interestingly I do not have a printer installed,
nor have I ever had a printer installed. I did have CutePDF installed. Here is what
did not work:
* I checked windows/system32/spools/printers - it was empty.
* I checked the registry for the ciadoor worm listed above - it was not there.
* I checked Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes to see if Microsoft Office Image
Writer was the issue - there were no printers listed.
* I turned off the Print Spooler service in the Administrative Tools panel, and that
seemed to stop it, but I like using CutePDF, so I tried to mess around with other
things first.
* I uninstalled CutePDF (interestingly, it required me to have the print spooler
activated in order to uninstall it). This did not fix the problem - spoolsv.exe returned
every time I shut it down and climbed to the top of the list immediately. This tells
me that CutePDF is not the issue.
* The only other program I have that is capable of writing to PDF is OpenOffice 3.0,
which is not even open, let alone printing anything.
A "practical fix" is just to turn off the print spooler, then turn it back on whenever
you want to use it, but...
Isn't there some other way?
