I was disheartened to read that no one at this forum knows of a solution to the SFC problem. I slipstreamed a Windows XP Pro SP2 disc and a SP3 download together to make an SP3 install disc using Autostream. When I run sfc /scannow, I just get stuck in an infinite loop with dialog boxes that say I have the wrong disc version. I can't kill the sfc process with Windows Task Manager! I backed up my registry and tried this advice: http://www.pcug.org.au/boesen/SFC/SFC.htm which basically consists of copying the I386 folder from your slipstreamed disc to your hard drive and modifying your registry to point to the I386 folder on your HD. No joy. Microsoft was deathly silent when I posted the results of slipstreaming to their Windows XP "Expert Zone" web site, and, in an extremely interesting twist, has just erased the discussion which used to be here: http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/aspx/notifauth.aspx?url=http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg%3dmicrosoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support%26mid%3d388e57ad-5805-4ddf-ab15-43c9b7f78a14 Perhaps they should rename their OS Opaque Windows!
