The administrator can change the passwords for other users. In the screen saver options hater is a check box for the loin screen.
Leaving passwords blank is not a good practice. Some types of 'malware' take advantage of blank passwords.
As password easy to remember is better that none at all. Try you mother's maiden name plus you coat size.
You may have a Trojan program that is fishing for passwords. Try a different virus scanner in safe-mode to be sure.
