Did that cure the problem? On some of my computers I use a password that works only when the caps lock is on. Then it nags me that the caps lock is on. But I do not use the numeric keypad. Having caps pf pr off ot num lock on or off can present a problem. At the first log in, after boot up, the locks are off. Later they may get turned on. These are common issues with password entry after first log on. A faulty keyboard can give you a bad time. Either fix the keyboard, or use a simple password that does not need special characters or long sequences. Notebook keyboards are bad aon this.
