Computer freeze, programs not running

A few weeks ago my computer stopped working, after multiple time tying to run the
Recovery program, it always freezes up and says the file C_21027 is missing, I finally
realized that if I right click on some of the files it will let me browse in I can
get some windows file to pop open, I'm running winxp and its an older computer but
I need to get all my family photos back to working, aprox 7 years old. Now I cannot
shut down, it will not work, and when I shut down manually by holding in the button
I have to go thru the complet recovery part again until it reaches the part I can
browse the folders. Is my computer fried? Also, I cannot get on the internet, I've
tried, It says I have connection, and I'm about to try do remove internet explorer
but don't know if it will come back on its own, just thinking maybe its damaged.
Any thoughts? Also, I'm no expert, just play around with the broken thing for weeks,
and look up info on my lap top to try different fixes...Thanks for your help
