Setting up machine for remote dial up - wireless

I am setting up an older computer with XP Pro on it and a Netgear wireless router
to be used as a remote dialer for dial up access to the Internet for my mother (parents
live where DSL and Cable are not available). She got a new laptop and thought this
would be the easiest way for her to connect.
I set everything up, used a wireless machine to test it and it popped up the dialer,
dialed, connected, got online, I hit refresh on the wireless machine (because page
timed out in meantime) and it was online fine. Only thing that wasn't working was
the automatic disconnect set at 10 minutes. (1st time ever built something like this)
I had to repair another system and ONLY unhooked the system, then hooked it back
up the same way it was (really only one way) and now it refuses to auto-dial up when
accessed from wireless machine... will not even share the connection when manually
dialed now.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled both modem and NIC (multiple times), checked every
setting, rebooted wireless router. I can not understand what could have changed..
or what setting could possibly be off.
Does anyone have any ideas? It is acting as if once a connection to dialup is made
now, it is turning off NIC connection and not allowing 'any' communication. ICS
is enabled.. it WAS working flawlessly (except for auto-disconnect)
HELP lol. Had planned on setting this up Thursday and running out of ideas.
(yes firewall(s) is off)
