This problem seems to appear after advanced file sharing has been enabled. Reverting 
back to simple file sharing does not seem to help.

Some had luck replacing the file RICHED32.DLL with a previous version (Windows 98SE) 
and some with a newer version. You might try that. Also, pull RICHED32.DLL right 
from the xp cd; an app installed on both of your machines may have "updated" both 
of them.

Also, see the following MS article on malware. Check for administrative shares, under 
RESOLUTION, number 3 (look before making changes).

"3. After the computer restarts, verify that the administrative shares are active. 
To examine the shares, use the net share command. To do this, follow these steps: 
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER. 
At the command prompt, type net share, and then press ENTER. 
Look for the Admin$, C$, and IPC$ administrative shares in the list of shares."
