Thank you for your prompt response. I could not find the PIO/DMA option in my BIOS,
though I looked at all the pages and submenus. However, I find that Ultra DMA is
set in the System properties menu for IDE 1.
I will read up on how to clear the swap file and report back if clearing it improves
the system.
Chkdsk /p is not an option available in my system. But I had run /r several times,
on all the partitions.
