Verification of a hardware fault, in addition to the Event 11 entries, might be done
with DriveImage. Go to http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
and follow the link at "You can run DriveImage XML from a WinPE boot CD-ROM" to create
a new image of your drive. There will be a normal time variance, but if it (imaging)
drops back below five minutes (and that is the DriveImage you were using), xp (or
the DriveImage install on c:) is at fault.
If it does turn out to be xp, DriveImage (from above link) "uses Microsoft's Volume
Shadow Services (VSS)" and we will need to look into restoring that.
Go ahead and disconnect the DVD. If you can replace the cable without breaking seals,
do it. As Ricer said, a PATA drive would not boot. Besides, you need to look at that
SATA channel.
You might check at Lenovo to see if they have a bootable CD for comprehensive hardware
testing. Other than that, start documenting all symptoms in one place for return.
Disk check utilities are guides and in no way comprehensive. Even if the drive is
fine, something down the line is off. And if it is not the drive or cable, it is
on the board.
