Okay. I've solved it!
First I'd like to let you all know that I am extremely appreciative of all of the
help everyone has given me on this and any question I've had. I only ask when it
is last resort.
Now.
I started in safemode and everything was fine so I restarted normally.
I ran Process Monitor (took a little to figure out) and recreated the problem.
What it came down to was a bad AVI file. I had read that a corrupt AVI could do this
to a drive but couldn't wrap my mind around moving 1 file at a time to find it (this
is a TB drive with over 400 gigs used in AVIs--tv and movies).
But I ran PM (filtering by Process/EXPLORER.EXE) and it was staring me right in the
face over and over again until it showed that I ended the process in Task Manager.
I deleted the file and all is right with the world.
Here's a basic rundown of the original problem in case anyone searches for it.
Opened My Computer and 2nd EXPLORER.EXE showed in Task Manager.
Opened the slave drive and the CPU shoots up 50-99%.
Closed slave drive and My Computer window and CPU useage would still be over 50%.
Would have to end process in Task Manager.
(Computer would eventually slow and/or freeze over time if I left it running)
Thanks again!
