Other things to try (after "chkdsk C: /f"). Test after each. 1. Run "chkdsk C: /r" for a full surface scan. This will take a very long time. 2. Download a drive diagnostic from the drive manufacturer and run it. 3. Run a memory test. It is best to repeat (as needed) for at least a few hours. memtest86 = http://www.memtest86.com/ Simmtester = http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/download_fp.asp 4. Run msconfig and disable all startup items. Test for awhile and then enable a few at a time if it is fixed with a clean boot. msconfig = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560/en-us 5. Run "Sfc /Scannow". You may need your XP CD. System File Checker (Sfc /Scannow) = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747/en-us 6. Check (disable) the Shell extensions as shown here: Shell extensions = http://www.notsosoftware.com/Fixing_Windows_Explorer_Crashes.asp 7. Re-install your video card drivers. 8. It may be a bad multi-media file. Check this thread: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1240808904
