I don't know either, I really thought that all you needed to do was to take ownership. 
I've done System restores dozens of times using Acronis True Image and have never 
had a problem with reading data files. HOWEVER, I do not use NTFS for either my critical 
data drive or my OS drive, it is far too problematic with its overzealous security.
