Thanks for your answer. Your first line sums it up then.
I thought I read somewhere that sp3 contained some more optimisations (some claim 
their system runs faster with it), but not everyone agrees on that. 
The bottomline is then , I can simply do with what I have.
Security wise, I have no reason to patch either, less is more :-).

Instead of making faster processors we get more of them. Indeed multiple cores depend 
on how they are utilised and one may wonder whether Intel or Amd know how to do that 
in the first place. Multi-threaded code is the way to go they say.  True parallelised 
code is only for typical number crunching software feasible.
